Hatha Yog
The word Hatha comes from combining the two Sanskrit terms “ha” meaning sun and “tha” meaning moon. However, when the two components of the word are placed together, “hatha” means “forceful”, implying that powerful work must be done to purify the body.  Hatha yoga attempts to balance mind and body via physical postures or “asanas”, purification practices, controlled breathing, and the calming of the mind through relaxation and meditation. Asanas teach poise, balance and strength and are practiced to improve physical health and clear the mind to guide it effortlessly to a state of meditation.

The prime aim of hatha yoga is to improve body alignment, improve posture, purify the nadis and make one a powerful and pleasing personality.  It offers a complete body workout and ensures complete harmony of mind, body and spirit.

A Hatha Yoga session at our studio begins with breathing techniques to calm the mind and the senses. To accentuate the experience, ancient and powerful Sanskrit mantras (chants) are chanted to invoke healing vibrations of the consciousness. This is followed by asanas for spine, legs, hands, shoulders, arms and all major and minor limbs and joints where we tend to accumulate stress in our pursuit of modern living. Asanas are sometimes customised and are complemented by positive affirmations to suit individual needs of the participant. A session is complete with guided deep relaxation technique called Yog Nidra. The participants are encouraged to be aware of the self and the various changes that the session entails.
